My dogs' idea of a DIY powder room makeover - before moving on to actual DIY projects
December Beach Wedding - Let me explain...it was in California!
No dogs were harmed in the making of this still life photo! I think all they received was an, "Awww...Really? What have you done!?!?!" Their sad faces were enough to forgive them!

Repurpose your Silver Baby Spoon - Might as well get some use out it!
I simply bent the round spoon head back & forth (try not think about the fact that you are breaking a piece of sentimental silver & focus on the fact that at least you'll get use of it now )until it becomes weak and breaks off. I saved mine for a future DIY spoon project. Now file the rough edges! Cover the silver with a cloth to keep it from getting scratched (especially if it has a lot of detail)! Slowly bend the spoon around a pole that is similar to the width of your fingers, using plyers (over the cloth) to help hold & bend it. I searched the garage and found a piece of tubing from my husband's cabling adventures. I did not want to buy a metal ring sizer or ring mandrel just for this one project! I was able to do most it myself. I asked my husband to help finish bending it around once I had gotten it started. And now....I actually USE (or wear) my baby spoon!

Beabdoard Headboard - Inspired by many other headboard projects out there
Beabdoard Headboard - Inspired by many other headboard projects out there
I searched high and low for the headboard I wanted but, as I have mentioned before, I am just not willing to spend a fortune! I was inspired by people who had used old doors, so we ordered a large door from a major home improvement store. We waited and waited and waited. Only to find that the door shipped was too small, needed to be painted, and was scratched during the shipment. My husband noticed my long, sad face and told them we needed to return it! We then spent a lot of time shuffliong up and down the isles wondering what to do. I had my mind set on how to turn a door into a fabulous headboard. And now...we were left empty handed with no inspiration. After searching in every section of the store (some of them more than once), we got it! A Beadboard Headboard! They sell the beadboard in actual boards - Don't get that! It's a lot of nailing etc. Find it in the section where they sell sheets of peg board etc! We bought 1 sheet of already finished, white beadboard & cut it down to size AFTER we got home and measured the bed again. Remember...measure twice (or more) and cut once! We then framed the back with small boards to make it more stable. Then, using L-brackets we attached the fence posts. Yes, fence posts! We framed the front of the beadboard with a molding kit (4 molding pieces and 4 square decorative corners). This meant we had to cut the molding to fit our board, but with the square corner pieces we only had to do straight 90 degree cuts. No fancy saws, no crazy measuring for 45 degree angles, no mismatching corners. Just clean cuts that fit together like a puzzle! We simply used Liquid Nails (because we didn't want to rent a nail gun and I don't care for the holes that the tiny nails leave behind). This was a NO PAINT, NO PATCH, NO MESS project! And, in my humble opinion, it's as fancy as a lot of headboards selling at the high end stores!
