New Years Jars

As with most good ideas lately, this one started from a pin on Pinterest.  I know, you are probably saying, "Shocker!" to yourself right now.  The pin I saved was originally from inchmark a blog written by a mother who has worked as the senior art director for Martha Stewart Kids and Martha Stewart Living.  So really?  You know it's a good idea!
Her idea was to write down all those great things kids say but get forgotten as time passes.  By the time I hit "Repin" the comment read: "Throughout the year, write down memories that make you smile. On New Year's Eve, open it up and reread all of the good stuff that made the year wonderful!"  Now that is a great idea!

And the best part is... I ACTUALLY REMEMBERED it in time for the new year!

I made one for myself and one for a friend.

I was originally going to use large mason jars, until I found that they were sold by the case.  And I only needed two!  Then I found these cute, easy to open, jars that are sold separately and they aren't breakable!  Even better.  Or... you could repurpose an old jar or vase.

I debated (with myself) about tying a cute ribbon around them or using some cute craft paper to decorate them.  After searching through rows of ribbon it dawned on me to keep it simple and let the notes inside shine through!  So I got a couple note pads in different colors and some simple black 2013 decals.  I separated the colorful note pads and then used Mod Podge so seal the decals on (FYI..if you are not familiar with Mod Podge, you need to check it out here!  It will become one of your new best friends!).

There are already 3 or 4 "blessings" that I have written down and put in the jar.
I can't wait to open it and read an entire year's worth of blessings!
